A food brand is only as good as the people who grow the food. We believe that raising good turkey depends on farmers who work with their animals every day, caring for them with respect, and are committed to raising them according to the high standards set in our process verified program.
Our 700 independent family farms are home not only to well-tended turkey flocks, but some of the nicest, hardest-working, most caring farmers in the world. We know this because we work closely with them, solving problems, coming up with new ideas, and creating a higher standard for animal care—a standard they routinely meet or exceed.

It’s because of these farmers that we’re able to offer turkey raised without the use of growth-promoting antibiotics. That, along with their embrace of our training program in animal-handling practices, is what enables and continues to ensure our USDA Process Verified Program certification.
Our independent farmers consider the Process Verified Program another way to show transparency in food production. They do what they say, and they say what they do. For example, under the Process Verified Program guidelines, antibiotics are only permitted for the treatment or prevention of illness. When antibiotics are needed, they are administered under the direction of a veterinarian. In addition, the FDA mandates the discontinuation of all antibiotics prior to processing so that there are no residues in the turkey. The USDA routinely tests meat prior to processing to ensure it is free from antibiotic residue.
Real people who really care
Those of us who work with our independent farmers often share stories of their industriousness and ingenuity, as well as their good-hearted warmth. They’re the real thing. They care about the animals they’ve been entrusted to raise, and they care about the environment in which they raise their animals.
Many of our independent farmers incorporate environmentally conscious practices into their business. Modern farming technology used by many of our independent farmers makes conservation efforts feasible, and we also focus on minimizing the use of natural resources at our processing facilities.
In the information age, it can be difficult to sort out fact from outrageous claims and just dismiss all this effusive praise. But we mean every word of it. We believe the turkeys raised within the guidelines of our Process Verified Program are the perfect answer to the everyday needs of our consumers, but we also believe consumers should have a choice. That’s why some of our independent farmers also raise turkeys with a vegetarian diet, and no antibiotics are ever given to each turkey. This doesn’t mean there is a special breed of turkey that is not susceptible to getting sick; it simply means any birds that do require antibiotics-due to possible illness or potential exposure to illness-are removed from the flock and do not get labeled as part of the Honeysuckle White® “no antibiotics ever used” product line. We take caring for our turkeys seriously and do not want them to suffer through an illness, so medical treatment will be provided.
